Brandes Magnum Rimfire 22 Magnum AR-15 Uppers
Every so often we receive a message about .22 Magnum AR-15 rifles or .22 magnum AR-15 conversion kits. like always I perform the obligatory research to see if there’s anything new. While there’s often rumors of someone developing a .22 Mag AR or conversion rarely does anything come to market or last if it does. There’s probably a bunch of reasons for this. For starters the value of .22lr AR’s is cheap ammo. Typically for a box of .22 magnum ammo you would expect to pay $10-$15 per box of 50. While not expensive your still flinging quarters down range instead of pennies with .22lr. Another reason is 22 mag is a niche market. There is very little interest from the shooting public.

AR-15 22 CONVERSION KIT | AR 22 CONVERSION KIT
The Drop-in AR15 22 Conversion Kits are the easiest and least expensive method of converting your AR15 to a .22 caliber plinker. The kits will range in price from about $160-$250 and take about 30 seconds to install. There is a few down sides to using the drop in kits. The bullet must travel a few inches in an unrifled tube before it reaches the barrel. The barrels on most AR type rifles will typically have a twist rate that is optimized for the 5.56 Nato (.223) with a 1:7″- 1:9″ barrel twist rate and not the 1:16″ that works well with .22 long rifle. There is also a few thousandths of an inch difference in the bullets diameter of .22LR (.222) vs 5.56 Nato (.224). Those differences can lead to less then match grade accuracy in an AR15 but the accuracy is perfectly suited for plinking. If that accuracy is not suitable you can purchase a complete .22 long rifle upper. The cost starts at about double of the drop-in conversion and can go upwards well over $1000. The choice is yours.

CMMG MK4 HT 22 AR15 UPPER RECEIVER – the CMMG MK4 HT dedicated .22 LR AR15 FLATTOP UPPER RECEIVER lets you do live-fire training with affordable rimfire ammo while retaining the weight, balance, and feel of your rifle. Replace your existing upper with the AR22, load the included Black Dog .22 LR magazine, and you’re ready to shoot. You practice with your existing trigger and fire control components, so the trigger pull feels the same. The mil-spec receiver has a standard MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail, charging handle, forward assist (non-functioning), and ejection port cover. Inside, the standard bolt/carrier assembly is replaced by a dedicated “bolt rail” of hardened tool steel with a blowback operated stainless steel bolt inside. Both components are built to run hard and handle the abuse of long practice sessions. M4 has the appearance and weight of a USGI M4 upper, with correct contour barrel, standard M4 handguard, A2-type flash hider, and a gas block/front sight tower with bayonet lug, sling loop, and square front sight post.
